What to expect from the first treatmentThe initial treatment may last up to 90 minutes. In this time, a thorough assessment of medical history is taken. Many questions are asked, not only addressing the particular problem for which the patient is seeking treatment, but also looking at the rest of the patient’s body, mind, and spirit. The tongue and pulse are also examined to confirm the Chinese diagnosis. After all of this information is gathered, a Chinese diagnosis will be made upon which the acupuncture points are carefully selected. The needles will then be inserted and the patient will relax for approximately 20-30 minutes with the needles in. Most patients find Acupuncture to be a calming experience and may become energized afterwards or so relaxed that they need a nap. It is important to drink plenty of water after the treatment and not to do anything too strenuous.
